With the site situated close to the central business district of London, both residential and business users were obviously in close proximity. With this in mind a work down method of demolition was chosen as the favored option, especially as the use of controlled explosives would not be possible.
In order to minimise disruption to residents and business owners alike, careful attention was paid when formulating risk assessments. A local committee was set up to understand the concerns of those affected by the works, which also provided a platform for regular dialogue and feedback on the site activities.
Squibb Group utilised latest technologies on site, which included dust suppression systems to ensure any dust arising throughout demolition was kept within the confines of the site. With regards to “Green” initiatives, recycling was carried out on site to minimise transport requirements thus lowering carbon footprint.
