As part of the £23 million BSF project, our remit was to remove all ACM’s that would impede the demolition and major refurbishment of the school site. SGL attended several times over the past year with the latest visit completing the removal of thermal debris to the boiler room and undercrofts in May/June 2015. All operatives were subject to stringent CRB and drug/alcohol test with parts of the school still being in use. Parts of the school were still functioning whilst asbestos removal was ongoing.
Challenges for the project included:-
- Waste management & segregation from other contractors and school pupils and staff
- Strict cleanliness of all areas expecially with the follow on of M&E trades
- Ensuring removal works were segregated from the client
- Avoiding deliveries at peak times
Each phase of the project was completed ahead of schedule and within budget with no health and safety incidents.
